Stewardship requirement
As our entry page notes, all runners must meet our trail stewardship requirement before race day:
Complete eight hours of trail or habitat restoration work: Entrants must complete eight hours of trail work.
Donate $80 to Friends of Bridger-Teton: In lieu of restoration work, entrants may donate $80 to our trail stewardship partner, Friends of Bridger-Teton. Every penny will support the great work they do in conjunction with the Bridger-Teton National Forest. If you choose this option, you must email us your receipt/donation confirmation.
Make a donation directly to FBT
To ensure that every penny goes to FBT, we ask runners to donate directly to FBT on their website and forward us a copy of their confirmation email.
Volunteering at a race does not count as trail work
We get this question a lot. The non-negotiable answer is, “No, volunteering at a race — unless you’re working on trail — does not satisfy our trail stewardship requirement.” We’re here to improve our nation’s trail system.
Timeline
Runners must complete their trail stewardship between January 1 and one week before race day.
Late submissions
If a runner has not met our stewardship requirement before race day, we will assume they’re planning to donate to Friends of Bridger-Teton as soon as they’re back home. We will not post your results until you’ve met our requirement because, until then, you are not an official finisher.
