Directions to the start at Middle Piney Lake

Here are the Forest Service’s driving directions from Big Piney:

  • Head west on Wyoming State Highway 350 (WY 350)

  • Continue on WY 350 for approximately 10 miles (at this point WY 350 transitions into County Road 111/ Middle Piney Road). Continue County Road 111/Middle Piney Road for an additional 10 miles where you will then enter the Bridger-Teton National Forest (the road name changes again to Forest Service Road (FS) 10046)

  • Follow FS 10046 for approximately 2 miles. Veer left at the fork onto FS 10024 heading towards Middle Piney Lake

  • Follow FS 10024 for approximately 0.75 miles to a second fork and veer left again to stay on FS 10024. Follow FS 10024 for approximately 4 miles to access Middle Piney Lake Campground

We will not have food and water at the start. You should arrive at the start with the nutrition and fluids you need to have breakfast and run to the first aid station.

You will not have cell service at the start.

Directions to the finish at Box Y Ranch

The race ends in the middle of the national forest at the Box Y Ranch, a private working ranch. You will not have cell service at the finish.

From Alpine, WY, drive south on Greys River Road (FS 10138) for approximately 28 miles. You’ll see a sign for the ranch and turn right onto Meadow Creek Road (10140). You’ll cross Greys River to enter the property.

Flying to the race

If you plan on flying to the race, we recommend traveling through Jackson, WY (JAC) or Salt Lake City, UT (SLC). JAC is closer to the race but tends to be more expensive and, for many runners, requires a connection. SLC, on the other hand, offers more direct flights and may be a bit more affordable.

Closest regional airport: Jackson, WY (JAC)

The closest regional airport is Jackson (JAC), which is about two 2.5 to 3.0 hours from the start and finish.

Closest major airport: Salt Lake, UT (SLC)

The closest major airport is Salt Lake (SLC), which is about 4.5 to 5.0 hours from the start and finish. SLC offers direct flights from most major US cities.

Give yourself time on Sunday

Among the most consistent pieces of feedback we get about this race is, “It took longer than I expected.” Countless runners have targeted a 32-hour finish, only to arrive at the Box Y in 40 hours.

Don’t schedule your departing flight too early on Sunday. Give yourself plenty of time — perhaps departing on Monday. Better yet, stay for a few days after the race and explore the surrounding landscape.
